چکیده
Methods It was a prospective study with randomization of the drainage procedures carried out on patients admitted to hospital for the surgical treatment of chronic duodenal ulceration. The following estimations were made preand post-operatively: Chemical frecal fat, fecal excretion, and absorption of radioisotope-labelled triolein and oleic acid, together with serum levels of lipids, the labelled triolein and oleic acid, and D-xylose. Gastric acid secretion was also assessed preand post-operatively following stimulation with pentagastrin intravenously. Post-operative tests were performed at least six months after operation on patients who had negative insulin tests. Thirty patients were studied fully after their insulin tests indicated that total vagotomy had been performed. Fwecal fat and serum lipids: Both preand postoperative fwcal fat and serum lipid estimations

Steatorrhoea and Diarrhoea after Vagotomy: a Comparison of Drainage Procedures.
Steatorrhoea and diarrhoea follow all types of gastric surgery but their incidence is probably highest when vagotomy is performed. This investigation was undertaken in an attempt to answer the following questions: What is the incidence of diarrhoea and steatorrhoea after vagotomy accompanied by either pyloroplasty or gastrojejunostomy? Is there a significant difference in the incidence of steat...
متن کاملNine cases of gastric ulcer after vagotomy and drainage for duodenal ulcer.
Gastric ulceration was recognized as an occasional complication of vagotomy soon after Dragstedt championed the operation for the treatment of duodenal ulceration (Dragstedt and Owens, 1943). Gastric atony and antral stasis were to be expected after vagotomy without adequate drainage of the gastric contents and it was perhaps not surprising that a number of patients should have developed lesser...
متن کاملPylorus drainage procedures in thoracoabdominal esophagectomy – a single-center experience and review of the literature
BACKGROUND Pylorotomy and pyloroplasty in thoracoabdominal esophagectomy are routinely performed in many high-volume centers to prevent delayed gastric emptying (DGE) due to truncal vagotomy. Currently, controversy remains regarding the need for these practices. The present study aimed to determine the value and role of pyloric drainage procedures in esophagectomy with gastric replacement. ME...
متن کاملEndoscopic Pyloromyotomy: Overview and Early Experience
Post-vagotomy Gastroparesis occurs in 15-50% of patients following esophagectomy with gastric interposition, and results in aspiration pneumonia, persistent nausea, intolerance of oral intake, weight loss, and poor quality of life (QoL). Subsequently, this can contribute to significant morbidity and mortality in these patients. Currently, the efficacy of pyloric drainage procedures to prevent p...
